{"id":1560,"date":"2024-06-23T22:57:38","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T22:57:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/?p=1560"},"modified":"2024-06-23T22:57:38","modified_gmt":"2024-06-23T22:57:38","slug":"gratitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/2024\/06\/23\/gratitude\/","title":{"rendered":"Gratitude"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Well P2P is officially over<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five weeks, Eight countries (and a micro-state), seven border crossings and fourteen-and-a-half-thousand-kilometres across deserts and mountains, from Asia to Europe across the biggest continuous land mass in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the awards ceremony we received our Silver medal. This is given to cars that start everyday and finish everyday at the authorised points. Gold medal winners do that and have made every test and regularity ( something we couldn\u2019t do in the days the Mini was wounded) Bronze is given to those that started in Peking and got to Paris even if not always making every overnight stop. Some of these crews had the most amazing stamina to get cars like the 1925 Chilean taxi \/ 1968 Rolls Royce \/ Citroen DS to Paris<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"796\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4896-1-796x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1581\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>More amazingly we won <em>against all odds award<\/em>. I think in simple terms everyone loves a mini and loved that two tall guys did it in a mini<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"815\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4908-1-815x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1580\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Officially we came 28 out of 75 that finished and 13 in our class ( &lt;2500cc)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So it\u2019s too soon to fully reflect on everything that has happened  in the last 6 weeks <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However everyone asks would we do it again.    Right now I think not. I love rallying and I\u2019m sure I\u2019ll do more rally but P2P is big commitment in so many ways and wonder if it would have the same impact the second time ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mini has been amazing. The amount of love shown to it everywhere by everyone is fabulous. Lots of people it was their first car \/ learnt to drive in one Others it\u2019s the Italian Job \/ Mr Bean connection. Finally for some it\u2019s the great little competition car in circuits and rallying from 60\u2019s &amp; 70\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"659\" src=\"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4904-1-1024x659.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4904-1-1024x659.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4904-1-980x630.jpg 980w, https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4904-1-480x309.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve talked elsewhere about Stuart but it\u2019s worth repeating that these long distances can test your patience and he had bucket loads. He didn\u2019t even post some of my overtakes which I\u2019m thankful for \ud83d\ude1c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/henshall.com\/p2p2024\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/img_4899-1-798x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1584\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The HERO company which organised the event do a very complex job in very tough circumstances at times.  The all have a smile when I\u2019m sure they don\u2019t always feel like that!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However the real hero\u2019s of the rally are not the organisers but the Sweeps ( as the mechanics are called). They are first out the door to get up the road and prepare the check points etc. they are always the last ones in as they make sure all cars get help\/ aren\u2019t stranded.
